Project Exploring the Internet: Day 57
Looking for some Daily Blog Tips? That site has some good ones.
There are some good tips there such as keeping a consistant blogging schedule and be authentic.
It's a HUGE site though with many things to read. I'll probably be there on and off all day checking it out looking for new ideas.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 55
I'm having fun this morning exploring different places on Google Maps.
The first time I checked out Google Maps I got directions. But it was just a street map. Then I did some more exploring into it and found out that if you click the "Satellite" tab in the upper right hand corner, you get a satellite view. In most places it even lets you zoom in so far you can see the top of your house or car, close enough you can accurately describe someones place with color and size etc.
They make it pretty easy to find your place or someplace you are looking for. All you have to do is type in an address. It takes you right there.
So, I used my imagination and typed in "Vatican City." I was curious to see what it looked like there. I didn't really notice much. There were a LOT of cars.
Next I typed in "White House." It's very green, lot's of trees.
Then I went to the Dallas Cowboys new stadium. That view must have been a couple years old because it was just being built. They just started playing there this year but the stadium only looks half built in the satellite view.
Well, then I went to WhitePages.com and started typing in the name of a friend I grew up with to get his address. Then I went back to the map and found his place.
Wow, it's amazing what you can do online.
It sure does make getting directions to a place a LOT easier.
LOL
You can see the road with your own eyes and take the trip that way before you actually physically take the trip.

Thanksgiving for us has to be done a certain way....
It has to be TURKEY! None of this ham BS!
You must wake up to the smell of the meal cooking.
The parade must be on in the morning.
It has to be the jellied cranberry sauce that makes that sound when it comes out.
The meal MUST be served at Noon (give or take a half an hour).
The COWBOYS game MUST be on the TV!
Now THAT'S Thanksgiving!
I found some Thanksgiving Day Stuff online:
President Obama Pardons the Turkey
Thanksgiving Recipes
Thanksgiving Song for Kids, Thanksgiving Song, Turkey Jive Song, Turkey in Your Belly Time

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 48
My wife really wanted to see Twilight 2 last night. It was at the local theater (in a town of about 770 people) at midnight.
My thinking was, if they are showing it at midnight they are probably expecting a few people so I tried calling a couple of times just to see if it was going to be sold out.
Nobody answered the phone. They just had their automated message up.
I stayed up until midnight, drove all the way to the theater and got there at 11:45. We get to the door and she says, "We can put you on the waiting list. There are 11 seats left and 17 people on the waiting list."
What the #$%^@$%^@$#^#%@#$&%#$%*$....
I was nice, but I felt like screaming ANSWER YOUR *&%^%*&%*&^&*$^%^#$&^%^&*^*(%^$ PHONE!!!!
How does a vampire movie sell out on a Thursday night at midnight, in a town of 770 people, in NORTHERN MINNESOTA, made up mostly of Christians?
It kind of annoyed me even more when I looked in and it looked like mostly teenagers. It's a SCHOOL NIGHT!!!! HOW DO THEY MAKE THE MIDNIGHT MOVIE ON A SCHOOL NIGHT?
I thought the first movie was ok, maybe a 7/10. I didn't even know it was popular enough to open up at midnight. Then to sell out? I guess I don't watch enough E-Network. LOL
So I decided to look for a movie theater review site. I couldn't find one.
I did find movie review sites though.
Rotten Tomatoes is s decent site to review movies yourself. You write your own review and you can read the reviews of others.
It's ok but the format is confusing. It's hard to find things but it's the best movie review site I've come across.
I think there needs to be a movie theater review site though.
So as I'm writing this I decide to look one more time. I FOUND ONE!
Box Office Mojo let's you review movie theaters. The only thing about this site is that there aren't that many reviews yet. Even the Mall of America theater only has 3 ratings and it still doesn't have any reviews. So while you can express yourself, you can't really read much about a new theater before you go there.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 47
I found a site called Blog Things that has some cool stuff on it.
They have a What vampire are you quiz.
It said about me:
You Are Count von Count (The Count on Sesame Street. LOL)
You? A vampire? Well, maybe in name only. There's nothing really vampiric about you.
You are the kindest person in the world. You wouldn't hurt a fly, let alone suck someone's blood.
You are a natural teacher, and you enjoy the company of children. And not because you find them delicious!
Found a new personality test at Blog Things Personality Quiz.
It said about me:
You Are An INFP
The Idealist
You are a creative person with a great imagination. You enjoy living in your own inner world.
Open minded and accepting, you strive for harmony in your important relationships.
It takes a long time for people to get to know you. You are hesitant to let people get close to you.
But once you care for someone, you do everything you can to help them grow and develop.
In love, you tend to have high (and often unrealistic) standards.
You are very sensitive. You tend to have intense feelings.
At work, you need to do something that expresses your personal values.
You would make an excellent writer, psychologist, or artist.
How you see yourself: Unselfish, empathetic, and spiritual
When other people don't get you, they see you as: Unrealistic, naive, and weak.
Check out their 50 Most Popular Quizzes.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 46
I just started checking out Aviary. It's a full and FREE image editing suite.
I haven't done a whole lot with it yet but I can't wait to get into the photo editing. I watched a video about what you can do on their site and I can't wait to start monkeying around with my pics.
LOL
Something NEW, that's really COOL, and totally FREE?
I'm into that.

I think I'll probably put a bunch together and just winging them at the kids and see what happens.
LOL

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 40
Almost headed out the door to a poker tournament and forgot all about todays entry.
WHEW!
That close to ruining the whole thing.
So.... dang that was close.
LOL
I Googled "country" and came up with CMT - Country Music Television.
They have their own online radio channel and everything else country music.
It's good stuff.
:)

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 39
There's ANOTHER re-make of one of my favorites.
They remade The Dukes of Hazzard and TOTALLY SCREWED IT UP! IT WAS HORRIBLE. They hacked a classic.
They remade Scooby Doo and TOTALLY SCREWED IT UP! IT WAS HORRIBLE. They made Scrappy a bad guy. What the crap was that? HORRIBLE!!!! They hacked another classic.
They remade Battlestar Galactice and TOTALLY SCREWED IT UP!!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE. They changed all of the characters! If they wanted a totally different show, they should have just changed the names of the show and characters!
Now, they are re-making one of my favorite movies of all time into a new series: V!
I'm excited and scared all at the same time.
Are they going to hack another classic?
It looks like all of the episodes will be on Hulu.
The Pilot Episode is there right now.
I work Tuesday nights when it's on so I hope they have all of them.
They don't have the same characters, which I'm ok with, as long as they don't change the old characters. You know, don't make Mike Donovan into Lisa Donovan and don't make Diana into Bob.
The aliens in the new V didn't have the same voice change like they are SUPPOSED to have, which I HATE!!!! They are SUPPOSED to sound funky! Why change that? It doesn't make sense. It's only going to piss off guys like me who LOVED the original!
I'm not ready to crush the whole thing yet though. I did like the newer looking ship and the big video screen on it. That was cool.
I did like some of the newer characters and I liked the actors/actresses. They were good.
Anyways, I liked the first one. I posted a link. Hope you like it.

Want a vampire name?
LOL
Go to http://www.emmadavies.net/vampire/.

The Great Archives determine you to have gone by the identity:
Hanzi Cromwell
Known in some parts of the world as:
Master of The Highway Thieves
The Great Archives Record:
Takes more than gold from the rich on the highway - takes blood too.
Yeah, I've never heard of that site before either. Kinda fun eh.
Then I got to thinking, what other name generators are there out there.
I find a Fairy Name Generator.
For me, it came out:
Your fairy is called Tangle Rainbowshimmer.
She is a fortune bringer.
She lives at the bottom of tangled gardens and in hedgerows.
She is only seen when the first flowers begin to blossom.
She wears tangled dresses of multicoloured petals. She has multicoloured wings like a butterfly.
Ok, but I'm a guy. Come on Fairy people! Jody is a GUYS name too! LOL.
Then I found a Pirate Name Generator.
We'll now call ye:
Hackin' Dan Hacke
Ummmm.... OK LOL
Then I found a Renaissance Name Generator:
Ahhh We know just the name for you!
Garrison Conner Blair
Have fun with those and let me know what it came up with for you.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 37
So today I was checking out this new site called aNobii.
Yeah, I don't know why they don't capitalize the "a" but they do capitalize the "N" eh.
I absolutely LOVE it!!!!
You enter the books you have on your bookshelf at home. The book then comes up on your bookshelf on the site. You can write your notes/review of the book.
You can talk to others who have read the same book.
You can look at the review of others on books.
You can look for similar books.
You have the option on the site just to show off and discuss what books you've read or you can put your books up for sale or for a swap.
That's AWESOME! I think I may go up to the library and get some old books they are giving away. Then put them on here for a swap for something I really want. LOL
For now, I'm just putting up my favorite books that I have on my real book shelf.
:)
Check out my book shelf.
In the upper right hand corner of the book shelf there are different boxes to click. Explore that. One view will show you the covers of the books on the shelf and another view will allow you to see if there are any reviews....
I just started this site this morning so if you are interested in my book shelf and reviews you'll have to check back once in a while. It's going to take me a long time to put them all up and review them on that site. It looks like a blast though. I've got a few of my books up now though and a quick review on one of them.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 36
Big thanks to Kortney for suggesting Retailmenot.com. That site helps you find deals on a BUNCH of stuff to buy on sale and offers printable coupons.
The grocery coupons part of the site is my favorite.
And after I seen printable grocery coupons on that site, it got me thinking about looking for other printable grocery coupons.
Coupons.com
Smart Source Coupons
Then I thought, I'm going to check out About.com for what they say about internet coupons. They usually have reliable links.
Oops, it kinda ruined my coupon buzz. LOL
This is what I found on part of the site: Readers Respond: Does Your Grocery Store Accept Internet Coupons?: "My Store Does Not Accept Internet Coupon. Walmart Supercenter in my city does not accept internet coupons. I was surprised when I handed the pharmacy a coupon on Claritin and they turned it down quickly." — Guest Crystal Newhouse
That really bummed me out about it because I do most of my grocery shopping at a Super Walmart.
I guess one can just call the store they shop at first and ask before they try it.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 34
Well, I thought I'd see if you can learn Karate online, through some websites with videos and such.
You wouldn't believe how much crap one has to sort though.
There are a ton of sites but I was looking for something free.
Some free sites I came across either didn't have videos OR the videos didn't work.
I did find How to tie a Karate belt.
Well, it was a start.
LOL
I gave up on that one. It's the first time that happened. There was just too much junk to sort through.
So ok, what to explore....
I Googled "philosophy" and clicked on the first site. It was a site called "Philosophy" that was selling perfume and make-up.
What the ####?
That's just wrong.
GEEZ! Today's entry isn't starting off so well here.
Hmmmm.....
It's been snowing here on and off the last few days.
I DID IT! I found a cool new website!
HA!
:)
Was I worried for a sec?
NAH!
LOL
Get into the winter/Christmas mood with this Create a Snowflake site.
On this site you create a snowflake on your screen but cutting on a paper on this site. Then on a picture on this site the snowflakes people created are falling in a snowshower. It's really cool. You also put a message with your snowflake. When you are done, you can print your snowflake off or search for others' and print theirs off.
"Create a Snowflake" saved me today. I really like this site.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 32
I'm already a whole month into the challenge and I haven't missed a day yet.... It's a miracle!
LOL
Cue APPLAUSE
:)
Anyone got any favorite posts yet?
Find anything new that you like?
Thanksgiving is coming up in a HURRY!
Are you doing your Thanksgiving crafts yet?
I found a cool paper cup turkey craft online.
How about some clip art for your blog?
I suggest you do a Thanksgiving meal out of all Native American foods.... you know, foods from the Americas eaten and developed by Native people.
Oh.... I heard you ask, "What foods are from the Americas?"
Yep, I really heard you.
LOL
The internet is full of Native food recipes. I'll sprinkle some links throughout this entry.
Well, it will be easier than you think. TURKEY is from the Americas.
Meat you might use:
Turkey - Traditional and Thanksgiving should NEVER be allowed to happen without turkey.
Buffalo - If your local grocery store has it.... Wouldn't it be cool? You might be able to order it online as well, I'm not sure. I'm not saying as a substitute for the turkey but as another option on the side. Maybe you could mix small chunks with some wild rice.... Wouldn't it be cool to say we had buffalo for Thanksgiving? (Unless you're a vegetarian.)
Deer - Don't substitute for the turkey but a side dish would be nice.
A Wild Rice dish is nice on the side.
We always like to have frybread as a side dish.
Cranberry sauce always goes with Thanksgiving. I prefer the jelly kind in the can but cranberries are traditionally a Native food.
The potato is also a food from the Americas.
I think you also should have corn on Thanksgiving.
We don't really do much soup on Thanksgiving but sunflowers are a Native food and sunflower seed soup might peek the interest of any guests you have over.
:)
Other Native Foods and recipes:
Squash, Blueberry Wojapi, Cranberry Bread, Swamp Tea, Inca Potato Salad
I thought I'd throw in this Native American Food Pyramid just because I found it interesting.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 31
I'm a Texas Hold'em FREAK. I LOVE the game. I thought I'd search for some Texas Hold'em sites.
TexasHoldemPoker.com explains the basic rules.
Do you know how popular Texas Hold'em poker is getting?
Check out these celebrities playing:
Lou Diamond Phillips, Ray Romano, Jason Alexander, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Brad Garrett, Travis Tritt, Maura Tierney
Before you go to a live game, you should check out poker terminology or you might not have a clue what people are talking about.
Places to play online?
Pokerstars.com - Right now there are 206,615 players playing at 9:45am. That's crazy! In the morning, as it is right now, there are a LOT of players from Europe. I play at pokerstars. One can play for play money or real money.
If you have Facebook you could try Facebook Poker. I'm more of a serious player. My experience on Facebook poker (1 time) was not good. Everyone on the table I was at did NOT know how to play. Everyone would bet with absolutely nothing hands. I didn't like it at all.
I feel pretty much the same way about Yahoo Poker. It's a bunch of people betting with nothing hoping to get lucky. Against 1 player, you can take all their chips because they are playing so poorly. Against a bunch of players doing that, one of them will get lucky against you.
I'd go with the Poker Stars play money site if I were just starting.
If you do play real money or know somebody that does, you should check out Official Poker Rankings. There, they show you how you or your friends finished in tournaments.
Poker to watch online:
2009 National Heads Up Poker Championship (49 min) - Hulu has all of the episodes. If you scroll down, you'll be able to watch all of them.

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 30b
So I was just messing around on the Internet and found something interesting.
I found a site called Human Metrics.
On that site they have a Personality Test (click "do it").
I came out INFJ - Introverted 44, Intuitive 19, Feeling 81, Judging 33
HOLY COW!
At first I wasn't sure how accurate this test was going to be because I was answering the questions quickly to get it over with and many of them I thought that there wasn't a for sure answer. It all depends on situations. But this test hit me right on the head!
"Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier matters of life. Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power. INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden. They often are found in the wake of an emergency, rescuing those who are in acute distress. INFJs may fantasize about getting revenge on those who victimize the defenseless. The concept of 'poetic justice' is appealing to the INFJ. "There's something rotten in Denmark." Accurately suspicious about others' motives, INFJs are not easily led. These are the people that you can rarely fool any of the time. Though affable and sympathetic to most, INFJs are selective about their friends. Such a friendship is a symbiotic bond that transcends mere words. INFJs have a knack for fluency in language and facility in communication. In addition, nonverbal sensitivity enables the INFJ to know and be known by others intimately. Writing, counseling, public service and even politics are areas where INFJs frequently find their niche."
Famous Personalities that are INFJ:
Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King jr

Project Exploring the Internet: Day 29
Trick or Treating was good last night with the kids.
I got a little tired of people hiding in their living rooms with the TV on!
COME ON PEOPLE! That's HORRIBLE!!!!
I'll say it! If you hid in your house last night in front of the TV instead of giving out candy for Halloween you were a HORRIBLE person last night (not saying overall, but you were last night).
People went out and bought candy for you when you were a kid and took the time to hand it out to YOU! Now it's your time. Don't be a loser hiding in your living room in front of the TV.
One house, they actually took a tarp and nailed it up over their front porch so no one could knock on the door.
At about 7:30, there were 3 or 4 houses within a block that said they just ran out of candy.
What?
There weren't THAT MANY trick or treaters out there. If you don't hand out a handful every time and you bought a bag of 100 pieces for $3 or $4, you should easily have enough so you don't have to turn a kid down.
When we lived in town and had trick or treaters, I vaguely remember running out of candy one year (because I did hand it out in handfuls) and we didn't turn the kids away. We said, "hold on a sec" and we went and found something. Some kids got nickels, dimes and quarters. LOL. Others got a can of pop.
There were also about half the houses on every block with the lights off.
HORRIBLE!!!!
Mom and Dad BOTH do not have to go trick or treating with the kids. One of you stay home and hand out candy and PAY BACK what was given to YOU as a kid!
Don't get me wrong, we had a GREAT time trick or treating last night. The kids were laughing and running and enjoying the decorations many people had.
We were so into it, we didn't even notice for a while that we had lost a winter cap and some butterfly wings. LOL
:)
And yes, I took my "daddy tax" in candy bars. LOL!
But the behavior of some people last night got me thinking about paying it forward. You know, doing good for others when you had things done well for you, as in you got Halloween candy as a kid, now it's your turn to pay that forward yourself.
So I googled pay it forward. I found the Pay It Foward Foundation.
"Pay It Forward” is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde, but it's also an idea. It's an action plan within a work of fiction. But does it have to be fiction? We're hoping not. In fact, since the book was released in January of 2000, a real-life social movement has emerged, not just in the U.S. but worldwide. What began as a work of fiction has already become much more. The Pay It Forward Foundation was established in September 2000 by author Catherine Ryan Hyde and others to educate and inspire students to realize that they can change the world, and provide them with opportunities to do so. By bringing the author's vision and related materials into classrooms internationally, students and their teachers are encouraged to formulate their own ideas of how they can pay it forward." -- Pay It Foward Foundation
