Project Exploring the Internet: Day 29

Trick or Treating was good last night with the kids.

I got a little tired of people hiding in their living rooms with the TV on!

COME ON PEOPLE! That's HORRIBLE!!!!

I'll say it! If you hid in your house last night in front of the TV instead of giving out candy for Halloween you were a HORRIBLE person last night (not saying overall, but you were last night).

People went out and bought candy for you when you were a kid and took the time to hand it out to YOU! Now it's your time. Don't be a loser hiding in your living room in front of the TV.

One house, they actually took a tarp and nailed it up over their front porch so no one could knock on the door.

At about 7:30, there were 3 or 4 houses within a block that said they just ran out of candy.

What?

There weren't THAT MANY trick or treaters out there. If you don't hand out a handful every time and you bought a bag of 100 pieces for $3 or $4, you should easily have enough so you don't have to turn a kid down.

When we lived in town and had trick or treaters, I vaguely remember running out of candy one year (because I did hand it out in handfuls) and we didn't turn the kids away. We said, "hold on a sec" and we went and found something. Some kids got nickels, dimes and quarters. LOL. Others got a can of pop.

There were also about half the houses on every block with the lights off.

HORRIBLE!!!!

Mom and Dad BOTH do not have to go trick or treating with the kids. One of you stay home and hand out candy and PAY BACK what was given to YOU as a kid!

Don't get me wrong, we had a GREAT time trick or treating last night. The kids were laughing and running and enjoying the decorations many people had.

We were so into it, we didn't even notice for a while that we had lost a winter cap and some butterfly wings. LOL

:)

And yes, I took my "daddy tax" in candy bars. LOL!

But the behavior of some people last night got me thinking about paying it forward. You know, doing good for others when you had things done well for you, as in you got Halloween candy as a kid, now it's your turn to pay that forward yourself.

So I googled pay it forward. I found the Pay It Foward Foundation.

"Pay It Forward” is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde, but it's also an idea. It's an action plan within a work of fiction. But does it have to be fiction? We're hoping not. In fact, since the book was released in January of 2000, a real-life social movement has emerged, not just in the U.S. but worldwide. What began as a work of fiction has already become much more. The Pay It Forward Foundation was established in September 2000 by author Catherine Ryan Hyde and others to educate and inspire students to realize that they can change the world, and provide them with opportunities to do so. By bringing the author's vision and related materials into classrooms internationally, students and their teachers are encouraged to formulate their own ideas of how they can pay it forward." -- Pay It Foward Foundation

There are some success stories on that site and they even offer a free bumper sticker.
